Boudoir photography is catching on in southern Maryland!

I wanted to share with all of you a few new boudoir photos taken this week. All of these were taken using a Nikon SB900 speedlight, shot through a small 24"x30" softbox. I like using the smaller softbox as it lets me control where the light falls on the subject. With the larger softbox I had a problem with too much light spilling on the background. You don't need tons of lighting equipment to get results like this!

Photoshop before and after photos...

I thought I would post a before and after photo, so you could see what photoshop can do to punch up a photograph. Lots of new photographers are interested in this.

I recently did a senior photo shoot at the CSX train yard in Baltimore Maryland. BAD IDEA!!!! lol We nearly got arrested by home land security officers for being in the yard. We had no idea it was off limits! In the end the officers were really great to us and helped us find a safe urban area to shoot. (I'll post more photos from this shoot later)

Jennifer Thomas & Brien Croteau recent wedding..

Just a few quick photos of Jen and Brien's wedding! They were married at St. Andrews Church in Lexington park Maryland, on September 19th, 2009. Their reception was held at Greenwell state park in St. Mary's County MD. Greenwell is always a beautiful place to photograph a wedding, and we had the most perfect weather that day. I really enjoyed meeting their family, and friends. Thanks for having me as your photographer guys! It was a pleasure working with you.

Linda and Michael were married on September 6Th at Holy Face Catholic church in St. Mary's County. This is one of the prettiest churches we have in St. Mary's and it is always a pleasure to shoot weddings there. Here is a sneak preview of their wedding photos!

New Jersery Wedding.....

1940's themed wedding at Old Brenton Inn St. Mary's County Maryland

Amber Shumaker and Stevie Long were married recently and had a 1940's themed wedding. The wedding took place at The Old Brenton Inn in St. Mary's County Maryland. It was one of the coolest weddings I've ever photographed. Amber did a wonderful job recreating the style as you can see from these pictures.

I shoot children too!

Last week I had the pleasure of shooting two year old Maddie and Her mom Holly.

Holly who is expecting a new baby soon wanted a few belly photos taken with Madelyn and a few of of Maddie alone. It was quite a funny shoot with me trying to keep up with a two year old!



At one point Maddie had had enough and I could tell the shoot was over if I didn't come up with something to get her attention back and make things fun again soooo I said " Mad your mom has a hole in her tummy! Stick your finger in there and see if you can touch your new baby!" Maddie thought this was funny and proceeded to stick her pointy little finger in Holly's belly button. (sorry Holly but I had to do something!) Mad was quite amused and she had us laughing too. this is the photo from that moment. I love it! She continued to let me photograph her just long enough to finish the shoot and get some really sweet photos.

The ones near the beach were taken at Bushwood Wharf in St. Mary's County MD.

Linda and Michael will be getting married September 6th 2009 at Holy Face Catholic Church in St. Mary's County Maryland http://www.co.saint-marys.md.us/communitycalendar.asp They recently had their engagement photos taken and I loved the results we got in my back yard and in a nearby field at sunset. New Boudoir session In North Carolina's Outer Banks..

This week I went on vacation to the Outer Banks in North Carolina http://www.outerbanks.org/ Before my trip I knew I wanted to do a shoot in that location so I searched the casting calls on Model Mayhem's web site http://www.modelmayhem.com/

I found Athena who was also looking to do a photo shoot in the area at the same time. It worked out great for both of us!

Athena drove down to our beach house for the day and we shot together. These are a few of her photos. I hope to post more of them soon.

I usually shoot weddings and boudoir photos in Southern Maryland http://southern.maryland.com/ it was nice to go to the beach and shoot in a different location.

Coltons point photo shoot in front of the St. Clements Island Museum

I recently did a senior shoot with Mike Orwig, who attends Leonardtown high school. We took Mike to several places around St. Mary's County MD. One of the places near the water where I love to shoot is Coltons point in front of the St. Clements Island museum. http://http://www.co.saint-marys.md.us/recreate/museums/stclementsisland.asp

Every year Coltons point is where the annual Blessing of the Fleet celebration takes place. It really is a wonderful place to take your family. The fireworks display is amazing. My family always enjoys it more than the 4th of July celebration at the fair grounds because you don't have the huge crowds! Bring your lawn chairs or blankets, spread them out on the bank along the water front and relax with your friends and neighbors!
But, back to Mike! he was a natural in front of the camera and made my job super easy!
I put his mom to work as my lighting assistant. She did an amazing job! Thanks guys I had a lot of fun working with you!

I was helping Neil van Niekerk http://www.planetneil.com out that day. I work with him as an assistant which is why I'm gone from home so much. He teaches lighting workshops around the country. There is even a seminar in England and Ireland this July!!
It's a fun job! Any photographers out there who want to learn lighting should check out Neil's blog.
I'll be at the Washington DC shoot out June 30th and hope to have lots of photos to post next week. Sarah Raley Dale is going to model for the event. I'm sure many of you know her from her today show appearances.

St. Mary's County Wedding

I've been busy with weddings the past three weekends and I thought I would share a few photos from one of them.
Noelle Brown and Stuart Diamond were married June 6th at her mothers house on the water in St. Mary's County Maryland. It really was a beautiful wedding with a gorgeous bride!

Marcia Heart-Wise was the wedding planner and guess what, she rocked! Yes, Yes I know usualy photographers don't like wedding planners but Marcia was wonderful to work with. I've never seen a woman work so hard! the bride had nothing but wonderful things to say about her. I think she went above and beyond the call of duty! Hi!
I'm back :) I am soooo bad about blogging! I really need to do it more often!
So, what Have I been up to? LOTS of things but one of them I can't announce yet until the details are worked out. It is HUGE and I'm so excited I could pee my pants! Can I say that on the blog? humm.. yes I can, it's my blog! HA! :)


On June 2nd I helped Neil van Niekerk http://www.planetneil.com/ out at the NYC photog shoot out. We had a blast going out to dinner and hanging at Jason Groupps studio for a party afterwards!

Rob Nicholson puts these shootouts together, you can check out his FB site for more details, videos and up coming shootout events. I'll be at the one in DC on June 30th and I can't wait! Any photographers out there reading this may want to check these events out. It is a great learning experience.

I've posted a few new photos from a recent boudoir shoot with my girl Kelly. This girl rocks it out and I think I've encouraged her to set up a port on http://www.modelmeyham.com/ She is a beautiful girl and should be in modeling!! So go Kelly!
